Dippy Bhattakhayn 4th - Continuous Sparring
The Houston Super Grands proved to be an exciting tournament, full of world class competitors. Our team represented us well and definitely turned a few heads during the 6 day event.
In our team match we only lost to the number one team by a small margin. Actually, all our fighters only lost to first or second place competitors. Venya and Dippy just barely got aced out of 3rd place in continuous sparring, while Mikel and Max lost only to the 2nd and first place finishers respectively.
The continuous fighting was basically full contact and most blackbelts had been training for at least 10 years. We did well considering that one young man fought 16 times and didn't even place!
In forms, Venya performed well and seemed much stronger than the first place lady who had high no-pivot side kicks(hmm). Mikel did well, but a minor slip on the Kon Ku Sho jump hurt him. Bubba tied twice with the 2nd place finisher before ending up in 3rd place.
Many thanks to our sponsor, Jeff Fergason, for getting us there and back safely. Also, thanks to Shingo for his enthusiastic help in training the kids, Brian Schwartz for his coaching, and Mikel's mother for her audience and water and Red Bull support. Finally, thank you to everyone for supporting our team by participating in the fundraisers.
